Quartermaster Gerald Shuler was born
in Santee SC . He graduated from Clemson University in 1976 with a
degree in Science Teaching and enlisted in the Naval Nuclear Program in 1977 as
a Machinist Mate. He subsequently served on the USS Simon Lake, USS
Nimitz, and USS Enterprise with postings at Ship Intermediate Maintenance
Activities in Mayport Fl, Portsmouth Va, and Norfolk Va. He has been on 3
Mediterranean Cruises, 2 Indian Ocean cruises, 1 Western Pacific cruise, 1 North
Atlantic Cruise and 1 Polar Cruise. He has crossed the equator 4 times and the
Arctic Circle once gaining both his Shellback and Bluenose Certifications. He has
participated in actions against Libya and Iran. Chief Shuler retired in 1997
to Palatka, Fl where he joined the VFW after teaching at Peniel Baptist Academy
for 11 years. He has served as the Post Surgeon, Quartermaster, Trustee, Chaplain and is currently serving his 2nd posting as the Quartermaster.
